Where do these numbers come from?expand_more
The recommended sizes follow RSPCA Australia guidance, which says a pair needs at least 2 m × 0.5 m (1 m²). The bare minimums follow Humane World for Animals figures, converted to square metres. See our size guide for the full sources.
Do lofts or second levels count?expand_more
No. Only flat, continuous floor counts toward the minimum. Levels and ramps are extras for enrichment.
Does daily floor time mean I can use a smaller cage?expand_more
No. Floor time is great enrichment, but guinea pigs spend most of their lives, including every night, in their cage, so it should meet the guidance by itself.
